LESSON LEVELS
As you go through your tennis learning journey, you will advance through different levels in each age group. The most common levels are listed below. On average, it takes 18 hours of back-to-back weeks of consecutive tennis to move on to the next level. Certain advanced levels are by coach invitation only.
PEE WEE (5 - 7 YEARS OLD)
BEGINNER: In this program, players learn basic groundstrokes and serve along with activities that build tennis-specific coordination. We also introduce rules and "good sport" behavior. This practice is done with red balls which are bigger, slower (25% speed of a yellow ball), and appropriate for children this age. We also use a smaller court setting.
INTERMEDIATE: By the time students in this age range reach this stage, they usually transition to Elementary Beginner or Elementary Intermediate based on the coach’s assessment.
ELEMENTARY (7 - 10 YEARS OLD)
BEGINNER: This level focuses on developing agility, balance and coordination.Players learn the fundamental strokes of tennis such as forehand, backhand and how to serve, keep score and parts of the court. “I am a Good Sport” behavior is introduced.
INTERMEDIATE: This level focuses on maintaining a rally while improving placement, serve and technique overall. Foundations on being a "good sport" and moving on court are reinforced.
MIDDLE SCHOOL (10 - 14 YEARS OLD)
BEGINNER: Players learn the fundamental strokes of tennis such as forehand, backhand and how to serve. Lessons take players through a progression of skill building activities that speed learning with the purpose of setting them up to be able to hit the ball back and forth in the next level.
INTERMEDIATE: Players learn to rally with improved direction and consistency. Serving with control, net and overheads are reinforced.
MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL TEAM (13 - 17 YEARS OLD)
TEAM TENNIS: An opportunity for players in middle school advanced tennis, junior varsity or varsity to work on their game, play points, and improve their singles and doubles tactics that can help them climb the ladder within their teams.
ADULTS (18 YEARS +)
ADULTS 101: Players learn the fundamental strokes of tennis such as forehand, backhand, and how to serve. Whether you played a long time ago a few times or are brand new to tennis, this lesson is a good way to increase fitness, and learn the basics of the game.
ADULTS 201: Players learn to rally with improved direction and height control, serve with better power and control, return serves, and approach and play net with volleys and overheads with the goal of playing consistent points by the end of the session.
